This is a short but sweet nine song orgy of demented cannibalistic experimentation,
provided by three very adept musicians. There's no real information given as
to the identity or nationality of the band, so when I say that the singer sounds
like Lord Worm of early Cryptopsy fame, forgive me for not including his name.
Most of Ciribus' songs are sub-minute, packed with technicality and brutality
abound. "Money is Emphysema" jumps around more than a victim of fully
automatic rifle fire, while the title track is so musically esoteric that it's
almost comical. Indeed, Ciribus' technicality is to the point of ridiculous
at times, and reminds me to that end of Cephalic Carnage. But, before you dismiss
this mini-CD as a "musicians album", with nothing for the average
metal fan, take note of this: Ciribus pull some really sick sounds out of their
instruments. In some ways, it's a bastardized hybrid of Immolation, Cannibal
Corpse and Nile in the guitar department, while the drums are steady but fairly
basic, also like Cannibal Corpse. I don't know if "ZombieFlesh" is
the bands' own creation, but if they keep up this enjoyable experimentation,
they could have a Relapse or Discorporate knocking on their PO box door before
too long. NGOLLS

Ciribus is a brutal as hell band and here we have this release that is brutality
from beginning to end. Technical riffs, hyper fast passages, blast beats and
crushing rhythms. I liked a lot the use of pinch harmonics in the guitar riffs
that this band does and I would like them to use a lot of ideas like the ones
in "Never Quit, Never Die" which I liked a lot. The vocals are really
guttural (there are some Mortician influences here which I liked a lot) as the
style demands and make a good contrast with the voice that is more thin and
screaming. Palms go to the sound that is really clear and allows us to feel
the brutality of the recording in a really clear way (this is useful specially
in the fastest parts where you can distinguish clearly all the instruments and
know eactly what is playing each musician). I can say with no doubt that this
is one of the most brutal releases of 2002.

Out of the Santa Rosa region and recently released on Zombie Flesh Records,
the quick spirited, grind meets death sound of Ciribus has released this nine
track disc that moves fast as each track clocks in at about two minutes or less.
Featuring guitarist / vocalist Aaron Johnson, bassist Luie Gamboa, and drummer
Austin Spence, Ciribus does do many death oriented stylings here, but also work
in some strange, grindy type hellish melody to offset the total brutality of
this entire effort.
Of the nine tracks presented here, the obvious winner is the fourth and title
track of the disc as it offers some off timed, well structured metal that folds
in this wings and flying riffs that meld well with the overlying grotesque,
sickly death metal edge. Other winners include "Never Quit, Never Die"
which has this muddled type riff and winds through a solid backbone and "River
Styx" which has a start stop approach every so often to create this marching
type feel through much of the song.
At the very basic level, there are some distinct surprises here, mostly lying
in the sometimes strangely placed breaks and riff changes that move each tune
well off the map before finding its way back to the underlying groove of the
song. There is some melody in this mix, but most of it is brutalized by the
deep growling, disgustingly evil type vocals that work their way over the entire
sound. Gamboa is very fond of pulling off some intricate bass fills from time
to time that make good bridges between the longer straight forward sections.
This disc is both intricate and actually quite simplified considering the amount
of material they cram into each sub-two minute tune. However, the simplicity
comes in with the short lengths, giving the band just enough time to belt out
their riffs without over complicating the entire landscape. This disc definitely
takes a few listens, especially if the gindish short song approach wanes thin
on the attention. Not a bad listen, and one that has some interesting surprises
well hidden inside the decent overall production.

Uffff I need to take a break, after listening to this trio that loves involved
and complicated rythm, with some jazzy parts and much freshness in a grinder
version. These Californian guys were unknown to me, but after listening to this
cd, I will follow them.
It passes like a decibels twister because the songs are extremely short to be
a Brutal Death band o a Death/ Grind one (the longest song takes 2 minutes),
but they are even too complicated and have many rythm changes to be called a
Grinder band. In conclusion, Ciribus (that is not a new citrus refresment) takes
a little from here and a little from there, all with a high technical quality
and an unusual music freshness nowadays (although they don't offer anything
new, but a fresh sound). To get an idea: you get the technics, the jazzy parts
and the musical madness of Cephalic Carnage and some touches of the Old School,
i.e. Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation... with two voices: one as a pig and another
more shrilling.
You put all to 1000 revolutions per minute and you already have a new shake
of silly and involved grind/brutal death for next summer: to enjoy on your favorite
beach, while getting brown.

(CIRIBUS, Austin Spence,
P.O. Box 1112, Laytonville, CA 95454, USA).

It is a real violent attack - 13 minutes and 9 tracks. And it is not a grindcore,
but fast, technical death metal. Ciribus (www.deathmetal.com/ciribus) doesn't
like the stagnation - each next second of this material can be a surprise for
you, you never know what will happen in a moment. Rapid changes create sometimes
an impression of chaos, but Ciribus knows how to control own music, since the
members of the band are skilled musicians. They have fresh ideas as well so
this MCD can be called original. If this material had lasted about, let's say,
40 minutes, its intensity would have chopped your brain. Because it's much shorter,
you have the chances to survive although it won't be easy at all. This material
can be recommended the fans of Deed of Flesh as well as Dillinger Escape Plan,
but I woudn't dare say that Ciribus plays exactly as these bands. Talking about
these examples I only want to underline how wide can be the circle of the listeners
of this MCD. But it's not strange, this is the band from California and I got
used to this that the bands from this state have the real talent to write brutal
music. Ciribus is not the exception.

CIRIBUS is a very cool chaotic & heavy as shit Death Metal band. These guys
mix it up a lot in their music to keep things fresh & original. They have
lots of influences of old school & new school Death Metal acts. The music
itself is a combination of older Death/ Grind with lots of grittiness &
some newer grooving Death Metal styles. They have a lot of changes & breakdowns
in their music as well as some cool distorted bass riffs, which I dug a lot!
There is even a fair share of blast beats to stir things up too! The vocals
are done in a couple of different styles. There is a very low full sounding
Death growl, a mid ranged harsh Death/Grind type vocal scream & a very raw
low gutteral gurggle! These guys are great! Any fan of any style of Death Metal
should get this disc! -

Death metal with some unconventional twists in it. When the first song starts
you think is this DM? But after the spoken lines hell breaks loose. Raging death
with grind parts so with a brutal voice and a screaming one in the background.
Fast songs with nice guitarlicks and the stampede drums. Nice Mini CD from this
band so check them out.

If it’s grindcore you want, then it’s grindcore you’ll get.
This Northern California quartet offer up for your listening pleasure 13-minutes
of unrelenting grindcore spanning 9-tracks - most of which have cute little
titles like, “Spewing Chunks of Monstrous Proportions.” How can
you not love a band with song titles like that? The case here is pretty cut
and dry, this is out and out grindcore in the vein of Regurgitation or even
Brutal Truth, albeit Ciribus has more of an actual death edge, which is about
as easy to find as a full blooded vein on a Hastings junkie, but you get the
idea. As a third release from this California four-piece I’m not blown
away by all indications but it definitely makes for a fun listen and will most
certainly fill the grindcore void in your life.

A banda busca
uma gravadora para lançar o terceiro trabalho e tenho certeza de que,
com uma melhor produção e suporte tem muito mais a oferecer. Destaque
para “Money Is Emphysema” e “River Styx”.

CIRIBUS is a GREAT GROUP! They’re have the hardest sound I've heard in
a while. The musical style is not to go unnoticed either. It’s not typical
DeathMetal but it's as BRUTAL as any deathmetal band I've heard. Signed or unsigned.
These guys are OUTTA HERE (like a home run, and they should get kicked out of
the park cause they're siiiick) !...Megan metalzone.us
